Community Page
Being a small business, community is really important to us, our community are our customer base. From time to time we get asked to help out on projects happening around us. From helping children get growing, to finding useful homes for materials, here are a few of the things we have been involved in recently.
Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre
Set in the heart of Ennerdale valley, Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre provide a setting for outdoor educational field trips, for the training of children and young people in nature conservation and other such studies and activities.
Recently I visited to spend time planting cabbage and sowing beans and peas, with children from a local school, St Begh's in Whitehaven, who have visited there before and really believe in the benefits of having such a space available to children of all ages, who perhaps don't have the space at home.

I also returned at a later date to help workers from local companies, who were using social impact hours, clearing out weeds in the allotment footpaths and around the orchard, a delightful job that everyone loves! Many teams have made this project possible and there will be many more before it is complete. Working together to create beautiful spaces is what we are all about here at West Coast Composting Ltd.
Mirehouse
Local resident and parishioner Brian, saw some land becoming an eyesore at the side of St Benedicts church , Mirehouse. He took it upon himself to clear it out and turf it. Once we knew he was doing this in his own time, we decided to help out by getting stuck in digging out brambles and planting bulbs. We also put a shout out for Brian on our social media pages to see if we could get a few more volunteers. His efforts have gotten praise from local residents who have seen his hard graft over the past months. We look forward to seeing it in the Spring when the daffodils and tulips have emerged.
Local schools
Lots of schools have been on with creating interesting outdoor spaces for their children to learn and play in. This year we have helped with tractor tyres for planting and climbing, log rounds for building and stepping on, soil for onion competitions!
